Who Qualifies for a Diamond Play Button
The base requirement is 10 million subscribers, but the eligibility bar at this tier is meaningfully higher than for the lower awards. YouTube has flexibility to deny channels even after they pass 10M if there are content quality concerns, ongoing community guidelines strikes, severe copyright issues, or signs of inflated growth from sub-bots or other manipulation. Re-upload and compilation channels are routinely denied at this level.
For channels that qualify, the Diamond Play Button is shipped after a claim is submitted through YouTube Studio. Approval typically takes longer than for Silver or Gold because YouTube reviews these requests more carefully, and the plaques themselves are produced in much lower volume.
How the Claim Process Works
The flow looks similar to the lower tiers, but with extra steps.
- Channel crosses 10 million subscribers.
- A Creator Awards prompt appears in YouTube Studio for eligible accounts.
- Creator provides recipient name and shipping address, often with extra identity verification.
- YouTube reviews the request and may take weeks to confirm.
- Once approved, the award ships from a specialized fulfillment partner — wait times of 2-4 months are common.
The Elite Club
YouTube does not publish an official list of Diamond Play Button recipients, but third-party trackers give a useful sense of the club's size. According to data aggregated by Social Blade and Wikipedia, over 2,800 channels have crossed 10 million subscribers as of late 2025 — and since not every qualifying channel claims the award, the count of actual Diamond plaques in the wild is somewhat lower. The figure grows by hundreds of channels per year as more creators reach the threshold.
Why the 10M Tier Feels Different
- Massive jump in scale: 10M is 10x the Gold tier and represents one of the largest possible audiences on any single platform.
- Visible cultural footprint: Most 10M+ channels are recognizable beyond YouTube itself, including in mainstream press.
- Stricter eligibility: YouTube is meaningfully more selective at this tier and beyond.
- Slower fulfillment: Production and shipping of Diamond plaques takes longer than for lower tiers.
Famous Diamond Play Button Moments
PewDiePie's Diamond Play Button arrival in 2016 helped cement the award as a recognizable creator milestone, and his on-camera reaction set the tone for the unboxing format at this tier. Since then, almost every major creator who has crossed 10M has filmed their unboxing as an event video — these uploads frequently outperform their normal content thanks to strong CTR and viewer goodwill.
The Plaque Doesn't Change the Math
Crossing 10 million subscribers doesn't change YPP revenue share, CPM, or how the algorithm distributes your videos. It is a milestone marker, not a contract upgrade. The same fundamentals — strong CTR, healthy retention, and a clear niche — are what compound from here.
What Comes After Diamond
Past the Diamond Play Button there are two higher tiers — the Ruby (also called the Custom Play Button) at 50 million subscribers, and a Red Diamond at 100 million subscribers. These are custom-built awards that vary by recipient and are reserved for an extremely small group of creators. See the play buttons overview for the full ladder.
