Definition
YouTube Cards are interactive elements added to videos that appear as small rectangles viewers can click. They promote other videos, playlists, channels, polls, or external links (for eligible creators).
Types of Cards

Playlist Card
Links to a playlist. Great for driving binge-watching sessions.
Channel Card
Promotes another channel. Used for collaborations and shoutouts.
Poll Card
Interactive poll for viewers to vote. Boosts engagement and provides audience insights.
Link Card
External website link. Only available to YPP members. Used for merchandise, Patreon, etc.
How to Add Cards
- Open YouTube Studio
- Select your video → Editor
- Click "Cards" in the timeline
- Choose card type and content
- Set timing (when card appears)
- Save changes
Card Best Practices
- Timing: Place when you mention related content
- Verbal CTA: Tell viewers to click ("Check out the card above")
- Relevance: Only link truly related content
- Max 5 cards: Per video, don't overwhelm viewers
- Avoid early cards: First 20% of video has highest drop-off
Cards vs End Screens
- Cards: Appear during video, any timestamp
- End Screens: Only in final 5-20 seconds
Use both strategically—cards for mid-video promotion, end screens for post-video action.
