Understanding Ad Revenue
Once in the full YPP, your ad earnings depend on several factors:
Key Revenue Metrics
- CPM (Cost Per Mille): What advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions
- RPM (Revenue Per Mille): Your actual earnings per 1,000 views
- YouTube takes 45%: Creators keep 55% of ad revenue
- Typical RPM: $1-10+ depending on niche and audience location
Factors Affecting Earnings
- Content category: Finance, business, tech pay higher than entertainment
- Audience demographics: US, UK, Canada, Australia viewers earn more
- Seasonality: Q4 (Oct-Dec) typically has highest ad rates
- Video length: 8+ minutes allows mid-roll ads
- Ad-friendly content: Brand-safe content gets more ad inventory
Maintaining YPP Status
Ways to Lose Monetization
- Policy violations: Breaking Community Guidelines or monetization policies
- Invalid traffic: Artificial inflation of views or engagement
- Reused content: Uploading others' content without adding value
