Definition
Upload defaults are pre-configured settings in YouTube Studio that automatically apply to every new video upload. Saves time and ensures consistency across your channel's metadata.
Finding Upload Defaults
YouTube Studio → Settings → Upload defaults
Three tabs available:
- Basic info: Title template, description, tags, visibility
- Advanced settings: Language, captions, comments, category
- Shorts: Specific defaults for Shorts uploads
What to Include in Default Description
- Channel introduction/about section
- Social media links
- Common hashtags
- Affiliate disclaimers (if applicable)
- Subscribe CTA with link
- Contact information
- Chapter placeholder (0:00 Intro)
Pro Tip: Use Placeholders
Put [TOPIC], [DATE], or similar markers in your default description where video-specific info goes. Easier to spot and replace than forgetting to add important details.
